Are the Triangles Congruent?

https://tasks.illustrativemathematics.org/content-standards/tasks/33

The purpose of this task from Illustrative Mathematics is primarily assessment-oriented, asking students to demonstrate knowledge of how to determine the congruency of triangles.

Students should first be given an opportunity to explore which combinations of three congruent parts are enough to prove two triangles congruent.  A great resource to investigate which shortcuts work for congruent triangles is from the VDOE Mathematics Instructional Plan. http://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/standards_docs/mathematics/2016/mip/geo/mip-G-6-congruent-triangles.pdf

If the triangles are congruent, students can create their own proofs to show how they know the triangles are congruent.
