Biome Travel Agency PBL

Overview

Students first collect information about the different biomes before working in small groups (2-3 students) to discuss the pros and cons for each category (climate, location, flora, and fauna). This guides them in choosing a biome to recommend to a travel agency for promotion. They present and defend their choices during a board session.

In Your Classroom

Day 1: Introduce instructions, Scrum Board, and Research Document
Students will start researching the location, flora, and fauna for each biome. You can use whatever resources you choose...I like a mixture of books and websites that I curate via Wakelet or Google Classroom.

Days 2-4: Researching, Pros and Cons, and Slide Creation
Students work in small groups (I find groups of 3 to be the most successful) to complete their research, come up with pros and cons, and develop the slide.

Day 5: Presentations and Review
Students present their decisions in the following manner:
1 group member will stay with the board and present their biome recommendation and answer questions.
The other group members will rotate around the room to hear presentations and ask questions of other groups.

After the presentations, group members reunite and discuss why they would or would not continue to recommend the biome they presented. Students then reflect via flipgrid.
