An idea for using this resource would be to...

• show students a picture of the nature scene (below) and ask them what they think the story is about.
• have students identify vocabulary in the scene.
• have students read the story before filling in blanks.
• ask students to fill in blanks individually.
• have students compare word choices for blanks with a partner.
• go over answers with whole-class
• have students answer comprehension questions individually
• collect questions to grade, go over as a class, or have students compare in pairs.

Extension: see if students could replace words in blanks with other words with the story still making sense.
