Theoretical v. Experimental Probability
This is a series of two activities that should be used to support students in understanding the difference between experimental and theoretical probability. Students will start by working in groups to complete 5 probability experiments. Then, students will reflect on the theoretical probability of those same events and compare the two.
You cannot complete "day 2" without first completing "day 1". Students can do these activities on consecutive days or at the beginning and end of a unit on probability. You can use ANYTHING that you have in your classroom for the centers, you will just need to make edits based on what materials you are using. While these two activities technically cover the entirety of the standard, you should provide students additional instruction and practice opportunities to cover the standard at an appropriate depth.
