G.1 Logic- Valid Forms of Deductive Reasoning
Lesson-
Begin by describing and giving examples of each valid form of deductive reasoning including the law of syllogism, law of detachment, and the law of contrapositive. Use pages 5-6 from the VDOE's G.1 Deductive Reasoning Mathematical Instructional Plan to help with examples and practice.
Whole group practice-
Use this Google slides presentation. Students must determine which law is represented, if any. I would project each slide on my board and have students answer on individual white boards. Discuss common errors and misconceptions after each problem is answered.
Individual Practice-
Students complete this 10-question Quizizz on the Laws of Deductive Reasoning. I would assign it as a "homework" so that students can complete it at their own pace. Questions include determining which law of logic is being used and determining a valid conclusion.
