Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to allow students the opportunity to explore the Great Dismal Swamp in Virginia and North Carolina in the classroom. This webquest will require that students have access to a device that will allow them the ability to explore the site and create a Google Slides presentation. 

Use

This activity is used in my Environmental Science class when we are discussing the different types of aquatic biomes. In Virginia, the Great Dismal Swamp is a great example of a wetland biome but it is difficult to take a field trip there. During the webquest, students will explore and learn about the characteristics of the Great Dismal Swamp, what are threats to it, and what is being done to save it. This activity provides students with links to websites that will help them start their search. Attached below in the Links section will be a link to the webquest site and to a template you can use with your students.

Great Dismal Swamp Google Slides Template - copy this to your Google Slides. It is really simple to attach it to an assignment in Google Classroom. If you do this option, make sure to have it "make a copy for each student" to reduce headaches. This will allow for the students to edit it and if they forget to submit it, you can still grade it.
