SOL A.9 Make predictions, using data, scatterplots, or the equation of the curve of best fit.

AFDA.3 Collect and analyze data, determine the equation of the curve of best fit in order to make predictions, and solve practical problems using models of linear functions.

How many times can you bounce and catch a ball in two minutes?

Work in teams of three people.  Assign each person one of the following roles:

Timer:          Calls out the time every 10 seconds for two minutes.

Bouncer:         Bounces the ball from waist height and catches it for two minutes, counting aloud as he bounces.

Recorder:          Records the total number of bounces after each ten second interval.

How did the data behave?  Give at least 5 observations about how the data behave.

Your school record for longest time a ball has been bounced is 4 hours 47 minutes.  How many bounces would you expect in this time frame?  Justify using mathematical reasoning and draw a diagram to explain.
