A course in Graphic Arts Technology provides students with an understanding of the processes and systems common to careers in publishing, printing, and other forms of media distribution. Representative topics include graphic design concepts; art and copy preparation; image generation and editing; desktop publishing; on-demand publishing; school yearbook and magazine layout; advertising and promotion; printing technology; binding and finishing; and screen printing.Students will be committed to lifelong learning as they grow individually, participate in groups, think analytically, create artistic products, and contribute to production of a major project. Students will learn illustration design software such as Adobe Illustrator, photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, and page layout software such as Adobe InDesign to create projects that will be printed in traditional and digital formats.

Health Informatics is an emerging field that fosters the acquisition, storage, retrieval and use of information within health care. As information technology advancements become more integral to health care, the demand for health care professionals who can employ and utilize health data is increasing. Health Informatics plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of consumer care, reducing health care costs and providing healthcare access in rural areas. Health Informatics specialty areas include electronic health records, health care insurance billing, telemedicine, and health care delivery systems, including laboratory and public health.The standards for the Health Informatics pathway and related courses apply to occupations and functions in health information systems and the delivery of healthcare. The standards specify the knowledge and skills common to occupations in this pathway. Students participating in a solid Health Informatics program, can expect to understand patient privacy laws, health care legal and policy issues, front and back office data systems, health information insurance billing, troubleshooting and problem solving, and terminology. Additionally, students will learn different clinical applications in medicine, nursing, pharmacology, laboratory, and public health.

Hospitality Tourism & Recreation is a course designed to introduce the student to the various aspects of Hospitality industry. It is currently estimated that 30% of all the jobs in the state of California are available in the hospitality and food service workplaces therefore emphasis is placed on meeting the needs for the growing number of resources and services in the local area. This class is designed to give the student basic skills needed to acquire an entry level job in lodging, recreation, travel event planning and theme park/ exhibition occupations.

This course is designed to teach students the elements of design. Students learn to create an impact through the use of color, fabrics and textures. Instruction includes the history of interior design, furniture styles, design theory, and project presentation. Students will learn to determine the scope of a project, develop and present a proposal, and implement a project. Communication skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork, and ethics are addressed. English language arts and math are reinforced throughout the course.

Intro to Ag Mechanics prepares students for careers related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of equipment used by the agriculture industry. Topics will include safety, woodworking, electrical systems, plumbing, cold metal work, concrete, and welding technology.

Introduces the student to the changing era of machining technology, emphasizing terminology, referencing and applications related to manufacturing environments. The fundamental use of bench tools, layout procedures, materials, precision measuring tools, machining processes, drilling and cut-off machines and other machining/manufacturing processes will be stressed. Skill competencies and standards will be identified.Students will perform basic lathe operations, which will consist of facing, center-drilling, chuck turning, turning between centers, boring, grooving, tapers, knurling, and single point threading.Teaches students to identify the major parts of the vertical mill, align a vise, use an indicator, edge finder, and boring head, determine speeds and feeds perform simple indexing, mill flat, square surfaces and slots, drill, bore, and tap holes.Covers computer numerical control (CNC) lathe and mill operations, control functions, the letter address system, the program format, and machine setup. G & M codes, control functions, the letter address system, and math issues related to CNC are included.

This course is designed prepare students for entry-level positions in marketing, advertising and/or public relations. The course will focus on the basic concepts of economics and the fundamentals of marketing. Students will learn to make realistic management decisions as they apply what they have learned in the classroom to realistic business simulations and other activities.Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, and workplace safety, technology and employment literacy connection to core academic standards.

The Medical Assisting program prepares the student for employment in physician's offices and clinics. Medical Assistants help physicians by doing tasks to assist in the treatment and examination of the patient. They provide for the efficient operation of a doctor's office and some may specialize in the back office, while others may choose to work in the front office.The Medical Assisting Core provides information and skills common to all medical assistants. The student gains essential competencies and accumulates a body of knowledge that provides a foundation for movement into the administrative or clinical segments of the program. Course content includes: career orientation, medical terminology, body structure and function, law and ethics, emergency care, communications and interpersonal skills, community resources, health, and job preparedness.The Medical Assisting Clinical segment provides the student with the technical knowledge required to work in the "back office". Course content includes medical/surgical asepsis, assisting with the physical examination, office surgery, electrocardiography, administration of medications, basic laboratory skills, assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and specialized medical practice.

This competency-based core course is designed for all students seeking a career in the health care field. The course will focus on the concepts and principles of the structure, function and systems of the human body in relationship to human growth and development. Students will learn to recognize problem situations in health care settings as relate to direct and indirect patient care and they will demonstrate the use of critical and creative thinking skills and logical reasoning for problem resolution.Safety issues, ethical considerations, legal constraints and professional codes will be presented and discussed throughout the course. Students will use the knowledge of disease prevention for the maintenance of optimal health.Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, workplace safety, technology, and employment literacy.

Metals 1 and 2 CORE provides students with an understanding of manufacturing processes and systems common to careers in machine tool and materials forming industries. Topics include the interpretation and layout of machined and formed-part prints; the cutting, shaping, fastening, and finishing of machine tools; and casting, forging, molding, cold forming, and shearing processes.

The Ornamental Horticulture course prepares students for careers in the nursery, landscaping, and floral industries.

Plant and Soil Science covers topics such as plant classification, physiology, reproduction, plant breeding, biotechnology, and pathology. Students will learn about soil management, water, pests, and equipment as well as cultural and harvest practices.

This course combines classroom and community classroom instruction to prepare students for employment in the retail industry. Training will include elements of the sale, types of retailing, types of merchandise, customer relations, merchandising, pricing, inventory control, visual merchandising, operations, promotional elements, and human resources. Emphasis is placed on real world application of learning through work experience in the community. Employability skills emphasized include: preparing for employment, business attitudes, work habits and attendance.

This course is designed to teach individuals to perform marketing and management functions and tasks associated with owning and operating a small business. Students will develop a business plan, learn appropriate customer service and human relation skills and demonstrate positive work habits.

This course is designed to help students develop a general awareness of health careers and specific preparation for physical therapy and sports medicine occupations. Classroom instruction covers such topics as: medical terminology; human anatomy; emergency procedures; soft tissue and bone injuries; causes, symptoms and management of injuries; nutrition; physical fitness; and career opportunities. In addition to this ongoing classroom instruction, students will rotate through on-the-job training experiences with local physical therapists, chiropractors, athletic trainers, physical education instructors and recreational facility managers. Throughout this course, the studentsŐ core academic skills and ability to deal with people will be stressed.

The purpose of this course is to provide a project-based visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts and career technical training, by providing students with the technical instruction and practical experiences for aspiring video and film makers in the production of film, video, and new media projects for business and entertainment. Students experience both the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking in conjunction with learning about historical and contemporary traditions and conventions.Students are instructed on the three stages of project creation. In pre-production, students learn the basic principles of story development, screenplay writing, storyboarding, scheduling and budget planning. Instruction in the production stage includes basic visual composition, color theory, set up and operation of camera, sound, and lighting equipment. Students learn to use cutting-edge software applications for video and audio post-production. Mastering and delivery methods, in both traditional and new media, are explored.The course also includes the basics of job shadowing, internships, and job placement. The competencies in this course are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards. Interdisciplinary experiences and arts activities lead to refining a personal aesthetic, and a heightened understanding of career opportunities in art and arts-related fields.

Use your computer skills to learn how to develop your own web page sites. This course is designed to provide the necessary skills and training for an entry level position in the field of Web Design. The class will focus on web page planning, basic design, layout, and construction (effective and ineffective), setup and maintenance of a web site, HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, and various web page and image creation tools.You will learn the basics of web design principles, digital media options, web design language (HTML), Internet uses and processes, design considerations, the impact of target market demographics, deliverables, and multiple software packages. Courses such as this can provide the skills and motivation for you to successfully complete college programs in one of several business areas. The primary purpose of this type of multi-media graphics education is to provide instruction for and about e-commerce and Internet communications through the use of Web Page Design. This is a repeatable course with progressive levels through Novice (this first level), Intermediate, and Advanced levels. You can turn this series of courses into a full Career Pathway as first an introductory, then a Concentration, and finally a Capstone course.

The general goal of this course is to allow students to acquire the basic knowledge and skills used in furniture construction, cabinetmaking, and the construction process. Students will learn to safely use woodworking tools and machines to produce a quality furniture project. Students will also be introduced to carpentry through model design and construction. Safety is stressed throughout the program.
