They will inform their audience about the field,and provide compelling reasons why someone may want to join the field.

    Connections between computer science standards and content(s) standard(s) chosen for this task: CS 8.12 will be applied to the research topic, while ES 8.3 will be used to provide the persuasive messaging to encourage students to become interested in learning about the career field

    GoalYour task/goal is to craft a persuasive message for your audience to make them aware of a computer science and cybersecurity career fields and provide compelling information about the field.  Your problem/challenge/obstacle is to introduce an audience to the topic and create an appealing ad to compel them to want to learn more.
    RoleYou are/Your job is to research a selected career pathway in computer science or cybersecurity.  You have been asked to create a multimedia presentation that will educate and persuade potential applicants to choose your company (think “career fair.”)
    AudienceAs the human resources recruiter for (company of your choosing), your target audience is a group of potential computer science candidates that are looking for job opportunities.
    SituationYour context/situation is a computer science career fair.
    Product/ PerformanceYou will create a 3-5 minute multimedia presentation in order to educate and persuade potential applicants to choose your company.   You will need to develop a visual and auditory presentation so that viewers will apply to your company over the competitors.
    Success CriteriaYou will be judged by your ability to create a multimedia presentation that is educational and persuasive .  Your product/performance must meet the standards set forth in the project guidelines / rubric for evaluation.

     

    Student Prompt:

    You are a recruiter for (company of your choice) and have been tasked with attending a career fair to inform and persuade potential job applicants to choose (company).  All recruiters for the career fair are asked to bring a presentation for interested applicants that will motivate the best candidates to apply for work at (company).  You and your recruiting team will create a 3-5 minute multimedia presentation in order to educate and persuade potential applicants to choose your company.   You will need to develop a visual and auditory presentation so that viewers will apply to your company.Follow the rubric guidelines found below.

    What prior content or skill use is necessary for students to be successful on this task.

    Prior Content: persuasive techniques (English content), research techniques, citations and Works Cited, Introduction into computer science and/or cybersecurity fields Skills: Basic word processing; computer applications (e.g., google suite); presentation skills; organizational skills; collaborative skills; information processing / note-taking; research strategies.

    Get a Job! CS and Persuasive Messaging Project Student Handout 

    Using our new skills in marketing and persuasion, we will be creating some persuasive messaging to encourage other students to consider careers in the field of computer science and cybersecurity. We will need to combine our research of the most potent reasons to consider the computer science field with our understanding of effective persuasive techniques to make powerful messages for our audience.
