Quadrilaterals - Remix
This activity is from the OER Commons and was written by Mitch Curtis.
Task 1: Naming Game
Open the Google Doc and Make a copy, put the 1st page of the Google Doc up on your projector so they can see them, set a timer for five minutes and have them write everything they feel they know about the picture and make some conjectures as well.
At the end of those 5 minutes, direct a discussion among the class where you probe their ideas and clear up any misconceptions.
Wait for your teacher to post the flowchart on the projector. Once it is displayed you have 5 minutes to list as many characteristics that you know and as many things as you think may be true of that flowchart. Keep writing and try to make connections to extend what we have already learned about parallelograms.

As a follow up to this graphic organizer, I would review the characteristics together to help develop key vocabulary. Then have the class play Polygraph on Desmos https://teacher.desmos.com/polygraph-basic-quad The guess who style activity requires students to ask yes or no questions. This is great opportunity for students to practice the vocabulary while also distinguishing between characteristics of different quadrilaterals.
I would close the lesson with using the Dynamic Quadilateral Properties activity from Delta Math. Students & teachers can create free DeltaMath accounts. The Dynamic Quadilateral Properties activity allows students to move the vertices and side lengths to help them determine which statements are true about a given figure.
