This open ended task allows students to solve the problem in multiple ways. It is acceptable for students to not write an inequality equation in order to solve. For students who solve algebraically, the solution will have a decimal. This opens opportunity to discuss that if you choose to round, the hours would need to be to the next nearest whole number in order to afford the phone. The solutions also provide an opportunity to discuss that the decimal represents minutes and how to convert or reason the decimal as number of minutes.
