52 Minute Challenge - Green Your School! (Remix)

This is a remix of the 52 Minute Challenge (https://allendistinguishededucators.org/DiyGuides/52-Minute-Challenge.aspx.) It would best be used as a project based assessment following a unit on ecology or environmental stewardship.

Prior to the unit, have students brainstorm ways their school could be more environmentally friendly for approximately one week prior to project day. Split them into their groups and inform them about the project ahead of time so that they can be gathering materials and resources to begin immediately. On project day, students will follow the instructions in the original resource. They will have one class period to solve a problem at the school in an effort to make the school "greener". It could be the establishment of a recycling program, applying to obtain a grant for solar panels, installing motion sensor light switches, creating a community garden, or whatever else the school or area may need. The students will create their presentations in a single class period and then pitch their ideas to the administrators on a different day. The best idea(s) may be put into action!
