This lesson is part of a cross curriculum unit based upon planning of a road trip.  In this lesson students research an attraction they wish to visit on their road trip.  After researching an attraction students complete a brochure describing their attraction.

Students will demonstrate their ability to write an expository text by selecting a topic of their choice to write 3-5 short paragraphs, each following a different organizational pattern.  The writing should incorporate a main idea and important details while choosing language that expresses ideas precisely and concisely. Students should also show the best tone and voice in their writing to fit each organizational pattern and to vary their sentences to make their writing interesting.

This writing graphic organizer is a tool that will assist students to organize their thoughts and ideas in a visual way as they create an expository essay.   It can be used to structure any writing prompt activity by helping the student to break the writing activity into smaller manageable parts.  The graphic organizer is designed to focus attention on what to write in an expository essay and assists with developing brainstorming, creative thinking, critical thinking, reflection, and planning skills.
