Avancemos Unidad 5 Lección 2 Skit: "Una fiesta en casa"

This skit is a project that I use along with the Avancemos 1 Spanish curriculum. It aligns with Unit 5 Lesson 2 (party and chores vocabulary, affirmative tú commands, hay que and acabar de phrases). I usually opt for flexible grouping and allot five to six 55-minute class periods for this project. Students always enjoy these skits and wow me every year with their creativity. Just remind them (if necessary) that all skit content must be school appropriate.

Great illustration for showing the meaning of the most common prepositions in Spanish. I would use this in my classroom as a printout to glue into their notebook. During preposition learning and practice, students would have this on their desk as a visual resource. You could also have students act out the illustrations with a picture frame matte or cross stitch hoop to be the box along with any ball. This practice could also turn into an assessment for students to show their understanding.

Students could also look at a variety of sample pictures or even spaces in the classroom. Using the prepositions, they could describe their relation to each other.

Spanish Puedo Classroon Posters (Permission to leave the classroom, etc.)

Use these posters to get students speaking in Spanish from day one: Can I go...? Can I have...? In my classroom, I have these posted. After explaining the expectation and modeling how to ask/answer. When a student asks a question that is posted, I respond, "En español, por favor." And point to the poster. This is usually quite fun for them and gets that puedo conjugation in their minds right away for Can I.
These posters could also be used for teaching classroom vocabulary, o-ue stem changers and present tense conjugation, especially using o to conjugate for yo.

This is a great resource for the beginning of the year, reiterating to students how they ask to go to the bathroom. This in conjunction with the Puedo ir...etc. posters on the wall (see the OER https://www.spanish411.net/resources/Spanish-Puedo-Posters.pdf), students can be using Puedo correctly before learning about the present tense or stem-changers. Also, students are inevitably going to ask to go to the bathroom. This video helps lock in that phrase with humor, fun and repetition.
