Leader, Skeptic, Scribe - Exploring Jekyll & Hyde Through Multiple Perspectives
For purposes of this lesson, I focused on activities connected to Jekyll and Hyde. However, the "leader, skeptic, scribe" strategy can be employed with virtually any text and to serve virtually any analytical process. If you are working with another text or if you do not wish to follow this exact lesson, you can still easily adapt this strategy to suit your needs. For example, if you are exploring a thematic question connected to this text, one station may ask students to explore what this text suggests about the nature of good and evil, or the risks of addiction. You may ask students to compare characterization of Dr. Jekyll to another character in the story or to another text you have studied. However you incorporate this strategy, the roles and the general process remains the same. Teachers simply need to decide what topic they want their students to explore and adjust the materials accordingly.
