This resource uses a song to talk about commands and toxic relationships. There is also a portion used to review descriptions of people.
Opening reading for a beginning-of-the-year, upper level unit on describing school. Students read each sentence and decide if it describes their school, home or community. CI-friendly, but models use of the "se impersonal."
Students create a presentation comparing school customs in the U.S. and a Spanish-speaking country. Suitable culmination or assessment proyect for unit on the school. Matches well with "se impersonal," and "hay."
How to use this formThis is a two-page activity, the first page the student describe him/herself. The student can write simple sentences such as: “Yo soy alto(a) = I am tall or simply write Alto/alta. The second page is the same instructions; however the student would choose someone else such as his/her best friend or a family member. There are times where I have built from this small activity into a family project.
Students will be able to create a magazine article written in Spanish with advice on living a healthy life.
This animated short highlights the holiday and tradition of Day of the Dead in Mexico. It can be used as a movietalk (http://teachingcomprehensibly.com/movietalk/) classroom activity using strategies of comprehensible input, specifically the idea of circling to gauge comprehension (https://comprehensibleclassroom.com/teacher-training/essential-strategies-for-tprsci-teachers/how-to-circle/). The activities that could follow could be changed to match the level being taught. In lower levels, having a discussion in English would be appropriate. In higher levels, asking deeper questions about how students honor their own loved ones and what their own beliefs about the holiday and tradition are could be a thought provoking prompts.

This resource uses the song "A DIos Le Pido" by Juanes to draw attention to the use of the present subjunctive. There is also some practice of describing people embedded.
The first form is your teacher notes with all the answers. It will help you guide students. The second one is the student form they would fill it in as you lead them in. Normally, after I give this lesson. I ask students to write sentences about them using all the functions of “ESTAR”. Then i ask them to tell me the same things about their classmates. I model on myself first. Then I ask them to come to the front of the class and read their examples.
ESTAR & SER are some of the most difficult verbs for students to remember, and learn to use properly as they become more comfortable with their new language. However, this mnemonic has become one of my most useful and purposeful lessons. Students remember and use them all the time after they have learned it this way.

How to use this activity:Students create a power point presentation, google slides, or album with their chosen family members. They describe each member including themselves by answering six specific questions for each member. Each member equals one slide or one page on the album or power point presentation. The sentences are simple and go from: “ Yo soy alta y muy inteligente” I am tall and very intelligent; to “Yo soy de Colombia pero vivo en Virginia con mi mamá” I am from Colombia but now I live in VA with my mother”Each sentence shows a different funtion of "Ser or Estar"
This flyer is an authentic resource to promote a family day in the city of Oaxaca., Mexico. It can be used to pull cognates from or to compare to something similar to that of another culture.
This resource allows students to read several paragraphs about a family and decide based on their comprehension, who is who in the pictured family. The activity itself is self-explanatory. Students will read the reading and decide who is who based on the descriptions given.
A possible way to use this in class is to remove the image of the family or have a blank silhouette of the family. The students then would need to draw in what each family member looks like based on the reading and comprehension level.
Another way to use this resource would be for students to bring in a photo of their own family and recreate a similar reading based on the physical descriptions of those in their own family.
