This document contains a sample list of fine arts careers by discipline, links and resources for exploring fine arts careers, and resources for workbased learning in fine arts courses.

Students will learn about innovative light construction and three-dimensional properties while creating their own designs using limited paper materials. Students will be asked to work in teams to brainstorm and create a sculpture that implements light based on their chosen concept.  

Students will listen to and/or watch a video about differences across America, listen to or view Ray Charles’ rendition of “America the Beautiful” and then have a choice activity: composing a poem or illustrating verses.

Students will learn about the Pamunkey Indian Tribe in Virginia and the tribe’s history of clay vessels. Students will learn clay hand building methods and hand-build a clay vessel that tells a story.

A study of how the element of space is used in dance for fourth and fifth grade students.  Students will explore how the dancer’s orientation and relationship to the space can be varied to create interest in choreography.

Students will learn and practice skills to adjust intonation and pitch. Students will use a short music example to practice the skills learned for adjusting unison notes in real time.

This instructional plan will introduce the foundational skills required for shifting and vibrato, including left-hand independence, proper instrument support, fingerboard navigation, and pre-vibrato motions.  It will offer the teacher step-by-step exercises to teach these skills in a heterogeneous orchestra setting.

Students will explore with watercolor techniques and collage to design their own character for a book cover.  Through an artist study on artist Eric Carle, students will observe and identify shapes in animals and use their painted papers for a collage.

In this lesson students will animate a ball bouncing into the "frame," squashing against the floor and stretching as it bounces up.  This lesson focuses on the first principle of animation called squash and stretch.  The lesson also explores exaggeration and timing.

Students will compare Ancient Greek architecture with the innovative and abstract contemporary architecture of renowned famous female Iraqi architect, Zaha Hadid. Students will respond to a design challenge and create a small-scale 3-D building model employing vision and originality to showcase their most creative idea of form and function.

Students will identify that creating a product, packaging, or place is the job of an artist using a creative design process to develop the very best solution. Students will use the iterative design process to develop ideas and create a new and innovative product, package, or place design.

This plan will introduce choral students to the basics of aural dictation using solfege. Students will apply knowledge of solfege and counting to dictation skills. Students will find success through the application of solfege by discovering why and how it impacts them as independent musicians.

Students will research Renaissance art and its historical characteristics. Students will combine anachronism and Renaissance technique, to recreate a painting. The student will demonstrate technical skill and independent thinking in the use of media, techniques, and processes to achieve desired intentions in the creation of their final product.

Students will learn to use an exaggeration of consonants in order to improve their diction, introducing them to the world of beatboxing. Students will compose four-measure rhythmic and melodic variations which will encourage their individual expression.

This plan will allow students to explore and record basic beatboxing sounds. Students will then create a homemade “DJ Board” and use a Makey Makey to make their sounds come to life as they feel like a real DJ.

This instructional plan serves as a resource to provide the instructor with a plan to instruct beginning string players of violin, viola, cello, and double bass (hereafter referred to as “bass”) in proper instrument posture and left-hand position. 

Students will be introduced to the soprano recorder and the technique needed to play the instrument. Students will learn to play a song using the soprano recorder.

Students will compare music from current repertoire to an arrangement or piece of a similar historical genre. Students will view music through a historical lens by understanding the cultural influences of the original piece.

In this lesson, students will perform a 12-bar blues progression, improvise using a simple blues scale and create an original blues piece with lyrics in an AAB form. Students will discuss the background and history of where the blues originated, its early performers and the progression from blues to early forms of rock music.

Students will learn about instruments from a variety of cultures and discuss how these instruments were used. Students will create an instrument from various materials to experiment with sound and playing technique.
