Anyone who is customizing resources, or remixing as it is often called, should read these rules and notes to ensure they do the correct things when remixing.  Following these rules will make your customized resources much more usable for other educators, and that is what #GoOpenVA is all about!. And the various notes probably answer questions that have already occured to you, so definitely read them all.

Students will read excerpts from Erasmus and Machiavelli then highlight three quotes from each passage that they feel summarizes the main ideas. Students will then choose one author's work make a "tweet" to show their understanding of the content.

This presentation is an adaptation of The Foundations of #GoOpenVA Workshop in a Box.  It was presented at the VBCPS Digital Learning Summit 2020.  Participants learned what rocking Open Education Resources (OER) are and why they are important, the difference between copyright and Creative Commons licenses, and how to navigate the #GoOpenVA platform including setting up a profile and searching for resources that are free and aligned to Virginia Standards of Learning. The presentation was facilitated using the free version of Pear Deck.

You can save resources to folders you create in your space on #GoOpenVA, similarly to bookmarking resources using a browser.  You can create the folders first, or create them on the fly, as you find resources you want to refer to again later.  You can save folders to your private "My Items" space or to any Groups to which you belong.

Students should analyze the Frontispiece to 'A Discourse concerning a New World and another Planet' by John Wilkins (1640) after learning about notable scientists of the period. In their analysis, students should attempt to identify technological advances and theories portrayed in the frontispiece.

This 3-minute screencast provides tips on finding various specific things on #GoOpenVA.  The accompanying Word document provides an outline of the tips, and a PowerPoint presentation can be used in a training session.

The RISE UnConference was held on 2/25/2021, and was a sharing session between North Carolina and Virginia educators.  We considered the past year and shared what we found useful in a time of crisis.  We also reflected on what would help us rise above that crisis to make education better as we move to a new reality.

The Egyptian Barter Game is a lesson designed to get students active in the classroom while learning about Egyptian culture and the barter system. It is a card game (using homemade cards and other materials) which should be played more than once so students can consider their strategies used to barter their "haves" for their "needs." It should not be students' first introduction to Egyptian culture but should come after some exposure to what life was like in ancient Egypt.
