Students today have heard much about the tragedy of 9/11, but most likely have little knowledge about terrorism of the twentieth century or worldwide terrorism. This lesson was inspired by a lesson in the Virginia Department of Education’s Enhanced Scope and Sequence for World History II which included the questions and charts which are used in this lesson (found on pages 193-195). The chart is attached below and questions have been added to a Google Form. This lesson introduces students to terrorist activities around the world and culminates in a cooperative learning experience in which students will research different terrorist events and create a timeline of those events.

Students are expected to know the location of the latitudinal climate zones on the SOL assessment. This is a simple Google Form you can use as a bell ringer, review, or quiz for students on low, middle and high climate zones. The form is collecting email addresses, but you can unclick that box on settings (top right of the form) and it will work like a survey. You can then go over how the entire class answered without revealing anyone's answers. There are other settings you can change to suit yourself including locking the quiz so that it can only be used on chromebooks.

Earth’s atmosphere is composed of thin layers of gases that protect the planet and its life forms. The students will work in small groups and combine different liquids that will stay separated because each liquid has a different density and therefore relates the concept back to the layers of the Earth’s atmosphere.

I created this game to give my students practice with making inferences. Students will use prior knowledge along with the clues given to infer what is happening in each picture. This is a fun and engaging activity to help students better understand how we make inferences. I would use this activity after introducing making inferences to my students. This will help to lay a stronger foundation of the skill before learning to apply inference making during the reading process. This game is similar to the popular Pictionary game. This is an engaging activity to practice SOL 4.5h.

I created a Jamboard with equations on each slide. Students are to model equations. The opening slide has the key for all subsequent equations. A red counter represents a negative integer, a yellow counter represents a positive integer, and a grey rectangle represents the variable. After students correctly model the equations, they may be asked to solve them. Students should use the rectangle and red/yellow counters to solve the equation. This activity was created due to students being virtual and unable to physically move the counters in the classroom. Students may work independently or collaboratively. https://jamboard.google.com/d/13T40ubvlB4-JX98Jwze4DItHJEqmCL63qEBz2ALIsxY/copy?usp=sharing

This lesson is created to introduce students to the relationship between the sun, Earth, and the moon. The movement of Earth and the moon in relationship to the sun causes phases of the moon. The interactions and orientation of the sun, Earth, and moon lead to patterns that are evidenced in seasons, eclipses, and the phases of the moon. There are 8 phases of the moon: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, Waning Crescent. The moon grows and disappears backwards (right to left)in its changing of phases. The moon revolves around Earth as the Earth revolves around the sun. The moon takes about one month to complete one revolution around the Earth.

Perimeter with missing sides is a skill that my students need lots of practice with. After we practice together, measuring around a polygon, I have them practice finding the perimeter by playing this game, Perimeter with Missing Sides Game. The game was made with Google Slides so it can be played whole group or assigned in Google Classroom for students to work on individually. This game supports sol 3.8a, measuring the distance around a polygon in order to determine its perimeter using U.S. Customary and metric units. I created this game in order to give my students fun practice in a virtual setting but I’m able to use it with both in person and virtual students.

I created this game as a place value review for my students. It supports sol 3.1a, read, write, and identify the place and value of each digit in a six-digit whole number. In this 4-round game, students work in small groups cooperatively. After each round is completed, the student takes the recording sheet to the teacher to be checked. Students shoot a small ball into a trash can, laundry basket, or bucket from lines taped on the floor to earn points for their team. This game is very engaging and helped my students practice place value and learn to work together as a team.
