Compare and Order Fractions and Decimals Algebra Readiness Formative Assessment
In this lesson, students will use manipulatives to prove that when comparing fractions, the larger the denominator the larger the piece. Also, when pieces are the same size (the denominator), the numerator denotes how many pieces of that size we have.
Encourage students to use strategies to convert fractions to decimals.
This PowerPoint reviews fractions as parts of a whole, powers of ten, and introduces decimal place value. Students will use money to find equivalent fractions and decimals.
HyperDocs are GoogleDocs that allow students to interact with teacher-curated content to explore a subject. This HyperDoc, created by Fern Vogt, focuses on equivalent fractions. There are Khan Academy videos and plenty of opportunities for students to practice.
Fractions and Decimals- Goldfish activity is a combination of literacy and mathematics. This activity encourages literacy across the curriculum, as a fraction concept is reviewed through Dr. Seuss's book One fish, two fish leading to cooperative learning hands-on activity where students experience how we use fractions in real life to sort from a cluster. Helping students understand the relationship between mathematics and literacy at an early age is crucial for their development as a whole child and building a strong foundation of number sense.
Students will explore and understand the differences between local and worldwide networks, while integrating fraction concepts.
