This lesson is part of the Virginia K-12 Computer Science Pipeline which is partly funded through a GO Virginia grant in partnership with Chesapeake Public Schools, Loudoun County Public Schools, and the Loudoun Education Foundation.  During this lesson, students will investigate the effect of water on surfaces as well as on a structural model they create.  

Binary is a way of representing information using only two options.Binary uses a series of 0 and 1 to represent information. In this activity, students will use a chart that converts binary numbers to alphabetic characters. This activity incorporates decoding of binary code into letters to answer questions related to energy and motion.

Kevin the koala  needs to come down from the tree quickly and safely.Design and create a slide that can help Kevin get down from the tree before it falls. The slide should reach the top of the tree, about 12 inches tall and have a “bucket” at the end to catch the marble.

The kindergarteners need games to play during indoor recess.  Students will design and create a simple game or maze that uses a magnet to make something move.  The object of the game should be simple so that kindergarteners can understand the directions and successfully play it.  The game should also be neat and appealing so that kindergarten students will want to play it.

Magnets are Amazing! Students will enjoy this review lesson discovering and creating things with magnets.  Students will also learn how magnets are essential to electronics and talk through troubleshooting

This is an exploratory lesson over two days to allow students to code a Dash Robot to explore the principles of force on objects in an obstacle course.
