This Quizlet Study Set contains Elementary (K-5) vocabulary from the "Networking and the Internet" strand of the Virginia Standards of Learning for Computer Science. Students can study the flashcards and play games to test themselves on the terms.

Computers use sorting to direct information across a network. This activity is a simulated representation of how a computer might sort information through a network.  Students will compare decimals and place them in boxes along the guiding arrows. Each box will contain 2 decimals. Students are to compare the two decimals in each box, then move the greater decimal forward to the next box on the right, The lesser decimal will be moved to the next box on the left. Each time the decimals are moved forward, the decimals in the boxes are compared and then moved to the appropriate box according to the rule (lesser: left, greater: right).Once each number has been moved to the circles at the top of end of the sort, the decimals should be in order from least to greatest. This is a variation of the activity foud here: https://www.csunplugged.org/en/resources/sorting-network/ 

Students work in groups with simulated messages and discuss how we share information with and withour computers.

This lesson plan features several science experiments to review the geology and properties of the ocean floor. In order to tie in networking and the internet I included a FlipGrid Assignment so the students are able to create a video and selfie. 

Create different quadrilaterals using the geoboard and use these shapes to show how information can be transmitted in different ways via a network.

Play a technology enhanced version of the classic telephone game. Use a discussion board to post the the message, then compare it to the original.

In this activity, students will interview a peer via video conferencing. Students will watch a brief Brainpop video on how to conduct an interview, review interview etiquette, and answer a questionnaire to better prepare themselves for the interview process.

Three days are recommended for the entire process. Day 1: Set up for the interview, Day 2: Group 1 interviews, Day 3: Group 2 interviews.
The class will be split into groups (Interviewer and Interviewee) or you can ask another class to participate with you - video "pen pals". The two groups will switch and play the reverse rolls.

In this activity/ lesson students will conduct research about a given or chosen profession, interview a professional in the field via video conferencing, and write a short article, essay, journal entry, or blog about their experience and the information they gathered.
