Citizen science is known as the collection and analysis of data relating to the natural world by members of the public. Those participating in citizen science projects and activities are not professional scientists; rather, this collaborative research is done by everyday people in a wide variety of settings around the world to help answer questions that scientists can’t answer by themselves. Whether participating in bird counts, water sampling, frog watches, butterfly monitoring, plant data, or other projects, anyone can find a fun and meaningful way to contribute to the scientific community, often providing valid insights into the natural world. Biomechanical engineering is an interdisciplinary field of science that applies the rules and principles of mechanical engineering to biological systems. It combines elements of many disciplines, including biology, engineering, physics, chemistry, and mathematics to better understand how physical forces influence living organisms. A biomechanical engineer may find work in the medical, scientific, industrial or governmental sectors. It is also sometimes considered a subset of Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering.
Students first think about what they have learned about the scientific method.Following this, they watch a short video on the nature of science.They finish by discussing how they think we should teach science.....be prepared for some very interesting discussions!
Students will analyze data from the "State of the Bay" reports from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation while reviewing and completing the scientific method. The final assessment is a mission for students to create a persuasive speech or advertisement that will call for action to make changes that will positively impact the watershed with reasons why change is important.

They convey data and information about their investigations, conclusions, and claims to audiences ranging from classrooms to the larger public community. The focus in this stage is on putting together what they have learned about the overarching question rather than inspiring action.
