At the end, the children are asked to compare the houses from the story to where they live. The children will enjoy a puppet show of the Three Little Pigs. Teachers can use this video to teach a sequence of events and story elements.
Art projects are a fun way teachers can teach non-fiction sequencing. In these videos, children will learn to follow directions and expand their vocabulary. The first project, monoprints, teaches the steps to create prints out of foil, cardboard, and paint. Through the second project, solar dying, children will learn the steps needed to create colorful string by placing food scraps in jars for the sun to dye.

The original lesson was intended for 8th grade students and took 8 class periods. I challenged elementary students (grades 3-5) during a STEM night to use available materials to create a pinball machine. Students needed to make a circuit that when a ball landed in a cup or hit a target, a buzzer would sound. The activity took the students approximately 20 minutes to complete. If students are expected to start from scratch, they will need approximately three class periods to design, create, and present their games

Citizen science is known as the collection and analysis of data relating to the natural world by members of the public. Those participating in citizen science projects and activities are not professional scientists; rather, this collaborative research is done by everyday people in a wide variety of settings around the world to help answer questions that scientists can’t answer by themselves. Whether participating in bird counts, water sampling, frog watches, butterfly monitoring, plant data, or other projects, anyone can find a fun and meaningful way to contribute to the scientific community, often providing valid insights into the natural world. Students will learn about the importance of participating in the voting process through a read aloud and participating in a classroom voting experience.
Use slides to cover the concepts of duties, rights, responsibilities, and traits. You can add pictures to the slides (or after) to showcase what they mean and/or have a discussion on where students see these being used. To reinforce that students can apply the difference between the four different categories of rights/duties/traits/responsibilities, have students create a citizenship web of themselves using either construction paper or a digital slide/page of who they are as a citizen. For further extension, have students add what each might look like for them as a citizen. This helps them to categorize and explain the difference between duties and rights, as well as understanding their basic first amendment rights and traits of a citizen.
This is a Desmos activity to assess the knowledge students have of the slope of parallel and perpendicular lines and angle relationships formed when parallel lines are cut by a transversal.
