After reading a variety of nonfiction articles, students will select one article to read, annotate, and complete the Exploring NF Text Graphic Organizer with their chosen text.Students will also summarize their chosen article by creating an objective and true summary including a strong main idea and supporting details.

Students will read nonfiction articles on a topic of their choice to create an informative article that incorporates important details, evidence, and uses vocabulary that expresses ideas precisely and concisely.  Students will include one purposefully crafted visual text feature in their writing.  Students will organize their writing in a way that aids comprehension for the reader. 

Students will demonstrate their ability to write an expository text by selecting a topic of their choice to write 3-5 short paragraphs, each following a different organizational pattern.  The writing should incorporate a main idea and important details while choosing language that expresses ideas precisely and concisely. Students should also show the best tone and voice in their writing to fit each organizational pattern and to vary their sentences to make their writing interesting.

For this summative, students will read a text that speaks to the theme of “Overcoming Obstacles”.  Using this text, students will explore the development of a theme, figurative language, sound devices, foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony, and other fiction standards.

This activity allows students to work through a series of games to learn about DNA, protein bases, and how they combine, dominant and recessive genes, Punnett Squares and genotypes, and phenotypes. 

This resource is for beginning level Spanish learners. It is intended to be used as a guided interpersonal speaking activity.

In this lesson plan, it provides students the opportunity to explore the rules of adding postive and negative integers using the online tool of Desmos. This is a lesson that encourages blended learning, class discussion, student discovery and provides multiple entry points for all students to actively participate.The plan includes the Desmos activity "Adding Integers" with the goal of creating two card groups with the same amount. The goal is to use the most cards to create equal groups. The level of difficulty increases with each new challenge. It begins using all positive integers then moves on to include negative integers. The lesson plan also includes suggestions on where to pause the activity to hold class discussions and another online tool to explore zero pairs using virtual integer chips. Suggested discussion questions are included to help lead students to the main idea if they are struggling. 

This activity is designed to have students investigate the basics of forces and how they affect motion. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a PHET Simulation by the University of Colorado on Force and Motion and use the simulation to create a simple Experimental Design and collect data.

Students will analyze data from the "State of the Bay" reports from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation while reviewing and completing the scientific method. The final assessment is a mission for students to create a persuasive speech or advertisement that will call for action to make changes that will positively impact the watershed with reasons why change is important. 

Use this resource to help introduce common letter patterns and their pronunciation in French. Uses the phonetic alphabet but can be changed to adapt for students that are not familiar with it. 

Students will use an Edpuzzle video to label their own map of the United States. The video is structured so students have to pause and label ten states at a time, in alphabetical order. The outcome of this activity is a completed US map for students' later reference. The second activity is a drag and drop game in which students drag labeled states into the appropriate spot on a map of the US. (Note: The state names in the activity have been color-coded according to geographic region. Students and teachers could use this later in the year to discuss regions and state locations.)

This is an interpretive reading activity for level 1 Spanish students. It uses a familiar topic with basic vocabulary and grammar structures. There are comprehension questions in English after each section.

A literacy narrative is a piece of writing that describes how you learned something significant about yourself as a reader and/or writer.  Literacy narratives are usually told in story form and are heavily reflective.  Students will work independently to write a literacy narrative that demonstrates their relationship with reading and/or writing. 

This is a multi-part activity that is for level 1. Students will watch a video to see basic greetings. It can be adapted for virtual or in-person, and there are opportunities to expand upon each of the activities.Learning Intentions:• I will learn about basic greetings.• I will learn about basic conversations (i.e. asking where someone is from).Success Criteria:• I can put a basic conversation with greetings in order.• I can have a basic conversation with a classmate. This includes names, how someone is, and where they are from.

This resource provides a lesson of editable items on solving Multi-step inequalities, including with practical problems, which covers SOL 8/18. The resources can be used for a Math 8 course, an accelerated math course that incorporates Math 8 standards, or as review in preparation for higher-level content. 

This activity is to be used after they have been taught native American resources. Students will need to fill in a Google Drawings chart for the Native American Resources by dragging each photo into the rectangle that it belongs to. When they are done, they will fill out the chart asking for them to justify their descions. They will need to describe what the photo is and why they put the photos in each rectangle. After they have explained, they will need to write the name of the tribe the resource belonged to (Inuit, Lakota, Iroquois, Pueblo, or Kwakiutl).

This is a fun interactive that can be used to assess students on the “New Nation” unit OR to review the unit.
