We will learn about some of the things we use to write and how over time that has changed. This will then take the students into day 2 of the lesson where they will learn about recycling and the importance of taking care of our Earth whether it be by taking care of various materials in our classroom to learning about things that we can recycle to help the Earth’s landfills with waste.

First, students will listen to the read-alouds listed above over several days. Students will begin to be able to identify and sort items according to needs vs. wants. The students will have to choose items carefully and responsibly in order to ensure that their wants are not getting in the way of their needs. Next, students will listen to the “Needs and Wants Explained - Facts for Kids” video. Students will then complete an interactive Word Wall sort by sorting needs and wants into their correct categories.Then, the teacher will give each student a scenario (Example: I need you to collect 3 needs and 1 want). Students will bring them to the carpet where students will sort their chosen items into two groups (needs vs wants). Teachers and students will discuss the sorted items and allow students to explain the reasoning behind their choices. Finally, students will discuss why we need to be responsible with our choices when we use technology.

These items include a calm down corner, stretchy fidget strings, pop it squeeze balls, multi colored quiet fidget toys, and slow rising squishy balls.
