Resources to support Mathematics Standards of Learning for Middle Grades
7.13 Solving Inequalities Co-Teaching MIP
This resource provides a lesson of editable items on solving inequalities with negative coefficients, which cover SOL 7.13. The resources can be used for a Math 7 course, an accelerated math course that incorporates Math 7 standards, or as review in preparation for Math 8 or higher-level content.
This is a practice sheet for solving multi-step equations.
In this lesson, students work to solve one step addition and subtraction equations using mental math and tape diagrams.
In this lesson, students think about the concepts of equality and inequality and then work to solve one step multiplication and division equations using tape diagrams.
7.2 Solving Practical Problems Co-Teaching MIP
Solving one and two step linear equations.Mathematics Instructional Plans (MIPs) help teachers align instruction with the Mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL) by providing examples of how the knowledge, skills and processes found in the SOL and curriculum framework can be presented to students in the classroom.
This lesson is a Jamboard of solving for the variable with proportions. Students use the Desmos calculator. Students use cross multiplying and dividing to find the variable.
This is a practice activity sheet for solving and graphing 2-step inequalities.
This google slides activity provides students practice for solving and graphing one step inequalitites. Students will think about the solutions for problems that inlude misconceptions about inequalities.
The student will evaluate algebraic expressions for given replacement values of the variable. This assignment includes negitive numbers and a few tricky questions. It is reccommended to review GEMDAS prior to the assignment. There are 8 equestions total and when answered, a few pieces of the digital picture will reveal itself. The digital picture will have the answer to the joke "Why do Giraffes get Bad Grades?"
This resource provides a lesson of editable items on solving two-step inequalities which cover SOLs 7.13. The resources can be used for a Math 7 course, an accelerated math course that incorporates Math 7 standards, or as review for higher level content.
This resource provides a unit of editable items on solving two-step and multi-step inequalities which cover SOLs 7.13 and 8.18. The resources can be used for a combined Math 7/8 curriculum or can be broken up by grade level and used in pieces
Solve multistep linear equations in one variable. Mathematics Instructional Plans (MIPs) help teachers align instruction with the Mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL) by providing examples of how the knowledge, skills and processes found in the SOL and curriculum framework can be presented to students in the classroom.
In this activity, students will spin a spinner with the number -5 to 5 (including zero.) They are to spin the spinner twice and record the two numbers. Then, students will use the two numbers to create a true equation. Once students create the two solutions, they will then determine if it will yield a positive, negative, or neither result?
This mini lesson is a slide presentation on Square Roots. The first section is asking for the square root of a number. The second part is asking for the two consecutive whole numbers that the perfect square will fall between.
Determining Square Roots. Mathematics Instructional Plans (MIPs) help teachers align instruction with the Mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL) by providing examples of how the knowledge, skills and processes found in the SOL and curriculum framework can be presented to students in the classroom.
This lesson is square roots of perfect squares. Squaring of a number and taking a square root are inverse operations. This is great practice for the students since seventh graders cannot use a calculator on this skill.
This video is part of the Continue to Know with WHRO TV series. Watch Fallan Lee-Brown teach about finding the square roots of perfect squares.
This is a google slides lesson on subtracting integers by modeling. Students drag and drop the counters to model the problem then solve.
