Students today have heard much about the tragedy of 9/11, but most likely have little knowledge about terrorism of the twentieth century or worldwide terrorism.  This lesson was inspired by a lesson in the Virginia Department of Education’s Enhanced Scope and Sequence for World History II which included the questions and charts which are used in this lesson (found on pages 193-195).  The chart is attached below and questions have been added to a Google Form. This lesson introduces students to terrorist activities around the world and culminates in a cooperative learning experience in which students will research different terrorist events and create a timeline of those events.

This is a lesson that encourages blended learning, class discussion, student discovery and provides multiple entry points for all students to actively participate. The plan includes the Desmos activity "Adding Integers" with the goal of creating two card groups with the same amount. The goal is to use the most cards to create equal groups. The level of difficulty increases with each new challenge. It begins using all positive integers then moves on to include negative integers. The lesson plan also includes suggestions on where to pause the activity to hold class discussions and another online tool to explore zero pairs using virtual integer chips. Suggested discussion questions are included to help lead students to the main idea if they are struggling.
