Share Art Knowledge with Short Video Commercials. Student artists can use short video “commercials” to create and share messages about topics of interest related to course content, art advocacy, to highlight student artwork, or advertise student art exhibitions.
Think Critically about Art using Digital Discussions. Students develop critical thinking skills by engaging with artistic works and in describing, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating works of self and others.
Engage with Global Arts and Cultural Connections using Interactive Digital Experiences. Interactive digital arts and cultural experiences allow students to examine and explore a variety of artistic and cultural perspectives on art, artmaking, and art exhibition. Virtual exhibitions from around the world can be explored on museum websites as virtual tours and virtual galleries.
Identifying Copyright Infringement in Art. Students will research prominent cases of infringement, fair use, and appropriation of images in the arts.
Tracking Self-Assessment Over Time. Students use interactive digital tools to document progress over time. A common rubric can be used for self-assessment and reflection, based on teacher-established criteria and/or personal learning goals set by the student.
Video Conference With Professional Artists. Use video conferencing tools to engage with and interview professional artists about their creative processes and career pathway.
K-2 Visual Arts Digital Learning Integration. The teacher can facilitate a project where students create drawings of landscapes from observation, then a final project based on landscapes of the area where students live using any media or techniques of the teacher’s choosing.
Interview with an Artist. Using a video conferencing platform, facilitated by the teacher, students can meet a local artist. The artist can discuss their creative process and give a tour of their studio, show what they are currently working on, and ask questions to the artist.
Local Art Collaboration. Facilitated by the teacher, students connect with a high school art class to collaborate within a cloud-based platform on a digital work of art. Each student has the opportunity to contribute to the work of art. During the process, students will learn from each other and gain insights into new perspectives. Students will have the opportunity to video chat with fellow collaborators when possible, and give each other feedback. At the end of the collaboration, the classes can share their artwork in a digital gallery, along with artist statements describing their ideas and process.
The teacher can facilitate a class period where students rotate to different stations to explore a media more in depth, and include a digital art station in the rotation.

Students will engage in visual and written activities that will support their creative process of choreographing a solo dance composition. The lesson includes motifs and the movement components -- body, effort, shape, and space (BESS elements from Laban Movement Analysis).
Students will observe the painting "The Abduction of Europa" by Rembrandt Harmensz. Van Rijn. They will then form groups to create a "tableau vivant" (living picture) inspired by Rembrandt's "The Abduction of Europa." Students will choose a character in the painting and create a scenario about what they think happened and what the character said before and after the scene. Each group will then collaborate and perform their tableau vivant for the class.
Students will examine primary sources in order to draw conclusions about the influence of Greek art and philosophy on the French Revolution. Students will compare the goals of the French Revolution to those of Neoclassical artists. Students will understand how visual language and style reflects underlying values in society by writing an analysis of the narrative in a work of art.
Who were the ancient Egyptians? Explore objects from ancient Egypt to discover how the Egyptians lived and what they believed in this Interactive Exploration featuring works of art from the VMFA's collection.
This resource consists of background information on Egyptian geography and climate, Egyptian life and society, role of the pharaoh, the purposes of ancient art, the role of scribes, hieroglyphics, the afterlife and mummification, Nubia (Egypt's southern neighbor), comparisons/contrasts to art from other parts of Africa, and a discussion on the legacy of Egyptian art (Egyptomania).
Woven throughout the informational narrative are several different types of looking, thinking and learning activities, all of which call on students' observation and critical thinking skills as they closely examine selected art and artifacts. Reflection questions that encourage deep thinking are featured, along with clickable popups on images that further explain Egyptian art and society. Activities like "Look At This," "What's the Story," "Be the Scribe," will bring student engagement, reflection, and critical and creative thinking to any ancient Egypt lesson!
Students will design ceramic forms based on specific Elements of Art and Principles of Design presented. The students may print out the handout and use colored pencils to create their design, they can create them digitally or they can use this handout as a guide to recreate ceramic forms in their sketchbooks.
Each of the 5 countries have topics, real life applications/consequences, and 3-4 artists from that country that can be used a "mentor artists" to lead the students to create an artistic response and presentation for students, staff, and environmental representatives In terms of the art - What do the colors, lines, shapes, and techniques of the artists make you feel? Why did the artist/author decide to use these techniques and colors? What if they had chosen a different color combination?What colors make you feel the same way? What techniques will you use to express the same feeling?
