Students will explore old and new ways to communicate information across long distances.  This lesson includes information on the Virtual Education Programs available through the National Park system.

 This is a two day lesson. The first day is a lesson about the history of computers. The students will look at pictures of past computers, computers of today and then discuss what they think the computers of the future will be like.The second day, the students will be looking at components of computers with several fun and exciting stations to help them learn the names of the components (parts and types) of computers such as, desktop computer, laptop computer, tablets, mouse, CPU,  printer, etc.  

This 2 day lesson will start off by teaching the students about various materials we use in the classroom and how we can save on waste in the classroom.  We will learn about some of the things we use to write and how over time that has changed.  This will then take the students into day 2 of the lesson where they will learn about recycling and the importance of taking care of our Earth whether it be by taking care of various materials in our classroom to learning about things that we can recycle to help the Earth’s landfills with waste.

In this lesson, students will be learning about different ways we communicate and how some of this communication has changed.  The students will also be learning about different community helpers and discuss ways the community helpers use communication in their jobs.
