The student will create & solve single-step story and picture problems using addition and subtraction

In this lesson, students will understand the basic idea that businesses use data to provide evidence on trends being noticed, success of business, etc. This evidence helps to support decisions made or predictions for future. Students will use computers to organize data collected on fictional doughnut shops. Students will discover that computers help them organize information, or data, in a variety of ways. They will also discover that some graphs lend themselves better than others to given data. Students will use the graphs to answer questions rEnglishted to graphs, cite evidence provided in graphs, and make predictions on what could occur next.

Using the mentor text How to Code a Sandcastle, students will display their sequence knowledge and coding skills to guide teammates through the correct order of how to build an ice cream sundae. Just like in computer science, when scientists need to construct programs and sequential events, students will use sequence structured graphic organizers, cut and paste picture prompts, as well as blank coding mat templates to help complete this fun and engaging lesson encompassing both Language Art and Computer Science standards.

This jigsaw activity introduces students with Arctic weather data using a role-playing activity that has students read and interpret graphs while considering the optimal time to plan a research mission to the Arctic.

This document is an order to show cause in the Marbury v. Madison Supreme Court case. An order to show cause explains that a defendant is expected to appear before the judge and defend his or her actions. The document shows damage from the 1898 fire in the Capitol Building.

Students learn the principles of independent assortment and gene linkage in activities which analyze inheritance of multiple genes on the same or different chromosomes in hypothetical dragons. Students learn how these principles derive from the behavior of chromosomes during meiosis and fertilization.

In this simulation activity students mimic the processes of meiosis and fertilization to investigate the inheritance of multiple genes and then use their understanding of concepts such as dominant/recessive alleles, incomplete dominance, sex-linked inheritance, and epistasis to interpret the results of the simulation. This activity can be used as a culminating activity after you have introduced classical genetics, and it can serve as formative assessment to identify any areas of confusion that require additional clarification.

Students will observe the painting "The Abduction of Europa" by Rembrandt Harmensz. Van Rijn. They will then form groups to create a "tableau vivant" (living picture) inspired by Rembrandt's "The Abduction of Europa." Students will choose a character in the painting and create a scenario about what they think happened and what the character said before and after the scene. Each group will then collaborate and perform their tableau vivant for the class.

Students will listen to the story Two Bad Ants by Chris Van Allsburg and use clues from the text to draw conclusions about the events of the story. Students will create a storyboard to represent the events of the story and use their storyboard to construct a program to sequence Two Bad Ants.

Students will work independently, or in groups, to explore computer response times for start-up; application and program run times;  serch engine speeds; and powering off the computer in safe and efficient ways using stopwatches and averaging load times.  Students will draw conclutions through a series of questions and comparisons to understand that variables in the user data collection, system byte sizes, storage limitations, multiple known and unknow tasks running behind the scenes, and/or internet stability/instability can all directly affect the computer's ability to respond accurately, and in a timely manner to user requests as well as perform as expected (with errors or success and/or lag time) and quickly.

Students will examine primary sources in order to draw conclusions about the influence of Greek art and philosophy on the French Revolution. Students will compare the goals of the French Revolution to those of Neoclassical artists. Students will understand how visual language and style reflects underlying values in society by writing an analysis of the narrative in a work of art.
