Overview of the activity:The students will sort and graph the items given to them and discuss the way they are sorted. They will then complete a graph of the items, and then we will construct and build with the items and explain what they build and how tall it is.
This Science lesson covers Science SOL 1.1 i and reviews Math SOL 1.12. In this lesson the students will identify the color of their eyes and use this information to make a pictograph. The class will make a class graph with the option of students then creating their own graph. The students will then analyze the pictograph and answer questions.
This is a lesson for first grade to talk about how technology has changed our lives over the years. I have it related to the first settlers and the experience they may have had if they had today's technology. We also will discuss the technology we use today in our rooms vs what used to be used and how our behavior online can affect us even when people can't see us.
Sample performance assessment aligned to the Science Standards of Learning.
The students will design and build a tent structure, working within a small group or partnership, that will keep the area under the tent cooler than the area in the sun. The structure will allow a small toy to fit underneath along with a thermometer. The students will use the materials provided by the teacher in the time frame allowed in the classroom.
Students will survey how paper is being used and conserved in their school. They will create a conservation plan, communicate the plan to the school, and then survey to determine the efficiency of their plan.
Students will practice communicating information to their peers with and without the use of technology.
Students will learn about the problems that can occur to prevent an iPad from working properly. They will then transfer this information to use problem solving skills to determine how a circuit works and what can prevent them from working correctly.Students are given circuits to explore and to be introduced to the basic knowledge of circuits and how they work. They will explore circuits and explore the problems that can occur to keep the circuit from working correctly.
Students will dive into the different components of computing systems, as we collect data from our homes to find out what computing systems are most commonly used in our families. Students will practice identifying inputs and output computer systems.
The student will be given magnetic cubes to create a loop and identify what each color represents needed to understand patterns, looping and sorting.
Students will design a ramp to move a toy car from one location to another.Then they will measure to determine how far the car moves on the floor until it stops rolling. They will record their data in a table after measuring with nonstandard units.
