This is a reference resource on the timeline of computers from the 1800's to the present. It contains two graphic images from the g2.com website showing the history of computers from 1890 to the 1970's and from 1980 to 2015 as well as a link to the website that provides more details of the items from the charts. The student (grades 4-7) will read the article and determine the purposes of each of the nine (simplified) tasks of a computer's operating system. This can be an independent, small group, or whole group activity.
This worksheet reviews some of the significant events in computing history. Students will draw lines to connect the person/event to the time it occured.
Students will color code each set of triangles to tell which shortcut, if any, can prove the triangles congruent. Shortcuts included are SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, and HL. Students can complete this digitally or it can be printed out and used as a worksheet.

After completing a study of the Enlightenment period, students will read the Declaration of Independence while highlighting phrases that appear to be influenced by Enlightenment philosophers. Working with a hard copy of the Declaration, students should justify their selections by citing in the margins which philosopher's ideas were likely applied.
A compilation of video scenarios of people interacting with each other in Portuguese. Conversations include dialogs, questions, turn taking exchanges, clarifications, false starts, hugs, laughter, asides. The scenarios are enhanced by transcriptions, translations, content analysis, and notes and discussion blogs.
Students will be able to prepare answers to the conversation starters and then talk to their partners
Students will identify the parts of the coordinate plane and graph ordered pairs in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. There are strategies embedded within the handout to support an enduring understanding. For example, in order to plot points, you can use an Elevator relation: Choose the door "x", then the floor "y")
Extension: Virginia Department of Education resource document titled, "Coordinate Plane", which is a remediation lesson. Students identify, and graph ordered pairs in the four quadrants of a coordinate plane. Visual aid handout, exit ticket, and lesson plan are included.
In this 40-day module, students develop a coordinate system for the first quadrant of the coordinate plane and use it to solve problems. Students use the familiar number line as an introduction to the idea of a coordinate, and they construct two perpendicular number lines to create a coordinate system on the plane. Students see that just as points on the line can be located by their distance from 0, the plane's coordinate system can be used to locate and plot points using two coordinates. They then use the coordinate system to explore relationships between points, ordered pairs, patterns, lines and, more abstractly, the rules that generate them. This study culminates in an exploration of the coordinate plane in real world applications. VDOE supported resource guides students through identifying coordinates and plotting points.
Learn to create files and directories in a Linux command line terminal and read the contents of created files.
It is suggested that this activity be used once students have a deep understanding of parallel and perpendicular lines. Students will be given the equation of a line in various forms and based on that information, must drag points on a graph to create parallel and perpendicular lines. Initially students will not be shown the graph of the original line, but can obtain that hint if necessary. Once students submit their solutions on the graph, they can reveal the answer, but will no longer be able to adjust their work. This could be used as an assessment, especially during distance learning.

Each student writes a one paragraph summary of a chapter of a book and then illustrates their chapter. It can be used for a book the whole class is reading so then all of the summaries are collected and bound together to create a “summary book” of the book read. This activity can be used for both fiction and non-fiction books in any subject and any grade, although this activity is linked to upper primary SOLs. This activity assesses reading comprehension and practices all writing skills. It also includes Art SOLs, and if you have students create their final products on the computer, then you would be incorporating the Computer Technology SOLs as well. If it is used for a non-fiction text in a different content class, then the activity would also cover those SOLs. It can be used for EL classes in middle school also.
Students choose a newsworthy article about something happening at the international, national, state, or local level. Students use the model below to set up a current event that includes summary, evidence, commentary, and citations.
This is a simple worksheet crossword puzzle for cybersecurity. This can be used to reinforce key terms and definitations or as an assessment.
