This competency-_based course prepares students for entry_ level positions in the cabinetmaking industry. Included in the course are cabinet design and styles, the use of advanced machines and equipment, computer_-aided manufacturing, special materials and commercial wood finishes and including green sustainable techniques and materials. Students will demonstrate their knowledge and skills by designing and building advanced wood projects. This course is for juniors and seniors only and may be taken for two years.

This unplugged lesson will allow students to encrypt and decrypt message using the Caesar Cipher letter shift method of encryption. Cover the process of how this method works by doing an example and explaining the process of shifting the plaintext by the letter shift value to create the encrypted cipher text.

This lesson is designed to teach students basic encryption using the Caesar cipher method. This is a simple letter shift cipher that takes a plaintext message and encrypts it into cipher text by shifting each letter of the message by a value between 1 and 25 (1 less than the total number of letters in the English alphabet). This technique was used by Julius Caesar to encrypt messages by shifting each letter of the message by 3 letters. The message would be decrypted by taking each letter and shifting back 3 letters to reveal the plaintext message.

This lesson plan can be used for teaching and reinforcing the idea of encryption for middle school students.

Working with large datasets that support exploration of patterns is an essential first step in becoming fluent with data. In this dynamic data science activity, students can access part of the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, containing demographic information about California residents (e.g., marital status, sex, place of birth, employment status, and health information). Students can try some of the suggested data science challenges, such as finding out the average income of Californians of different age groups in 2013, then engage in investigating their own questions.

Models and simulations are necessary for students to represent systems that are too large, too small, or difficult to study. Students will explore a voting model and simulate a vote in their class or school to determine if the model accurately represents their voting environment.

Students will be given simple sequence directions to find uppercase or lowercase letters on a grid. They will begin to develop an understanding of algorithms and code.
