Science Instructional Plans (SIPs) help teachers align instruction with the Science Standards of Learning (SOL) by providing examples of how the content and the scientific and engineering practices found in the SOL and curriculum framework can be presented to students in the classroom.

This spreadsheet has links to audio files and lesson plans for the Kinetic Scholar lessons developed as part of the Active Learning grant our school division was awarded. Many are student voiced and all involve some sort of audio lesson paired with movement. We encourage teachers to take students outside to listen and move around with these lessons when possible to increase circulation, get some fresh air, and enjoy our beautiful campuses.

The Computer Science Office in Loudoun County, Virginia has developed an open access lesson repository as a place for LCPS teachers and administrators to store, search, access, and share district created, free, curated digital resources that integrate Virginia’s Computer Science Standards of Learning.

The purpose of this lesson is for students to understand that economic activity can be classified as primary, secondary, tertiary, or quaternary; students will define the different levels of economic activity and categorize various activities by its level.

This lesson sequence offers students and teachers a way to explore their individual identities and sense of belonging through analyzing children’s literature and coding with Scratch. Through read-aloud activities and self-differentiated Scratch projects, students learn about the value of inclusion and explore and express ideas about their personal and social identities. Students will describe environments supportive of diversity, and reflect on their own identity as they create expressive projects about their sense of belonging. This sequence is made up of four lessons, though your students may need additional class time to work on their projects.This lesson sequence is part of CodeVA's committment to the U.S. Department of Education "YOU Belong in STEM" initiative.

This presentation will review negative and affirmative expressions in Spanish. There is an interactive game (best played in person). You can give students a coin (great time to use realia- pesos, euros etc.) and they place the coin in a hand and their partner has to guess which hand has the coin. The presentation provides plenty of examples and activities.

The students will learn the reason for the creation of HBCUs in the United States. The students will analyze primary resource image frames through the two Google Jamboards: KWL and drag and drop the Virginia HBCUs and Fraternities and Sororities. 

In this lesson, students work in groups of 3-4 students to analyze their paired novella in order to deepen their understanding of the text. Each student takes on a specific role - leader, skeptic, or scribe in order to form an assertion, support that assertion with evidence, and refine their assertion in order to craft a clear, specific argument. In addition to providing a collaborative, multi-modal analysis experience, this lesson also incorporates movement and reflection and is easily adaptable to any paired text or close-reading skill.

The students will analyze the rise of violent activities against African Americans after the Civil War which lead to the addition of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. Begin with a KWL Jamboard (also attached, in a PDF format) which also includes an activity in analyzing primary resources about lynching.  Students will then develop their own 5-day trip itinerary using the Negro Green Book (see the list of free PDF versions for various years) as a travel reference guide. The objective of the lesson is to have the students understand the perils faced by US citizens of color during the Jim Crow Era and how prevalent the dangers were in some areas of the United States at that time. The teacher may wish to use a formative assessment in the form of an exit ticket (see attached). 

The student will identify and interpret data and organize it in order  to make a prediction, with or without a computing device.

In this activity the students will review the alphabet. By using shamrocks and a pot of gold.

Les Conversations Mises à Jour is a collection of authentic conversations in French that targets mostly intermediate and advanced learners of French. Each conversation highlights the shared experience of two native or near-native French speakers and provides both an oral history of that experience and a trove of cultural references.

Students will be able to explain and give examples of the concepts of computers and computing.
