High School students are online all the time developing appropriate and inappropriate relationships. Because of their online experiences, they may feel well-equipped to recognize a bad situation and know how to get out of it. However, many times teenagers are drawn into a seemingly harmless conversation that will lead them to a dangerous offline encounter that they cannot escape.This lesson will provide strategies to teens to help them identify relationships that are inappropriate, how to avoid them, and how to get out of those relationships as soon as possible. 

In this exciting and interactive experiment, students will have the opportunity to discover and understand the relationship between force and mass regarding the movement of various-sized balls. Through the use of Spheros, these ingenious devices will enable students to apply force to balls of different sizes, including the wiffle ball, racquetball, softball, and ping pong ball. By observing the fascinating dynamics at play, students will gain invaluable insights into how force and mass influence the trajectory, speed, and overall movement of these balls. This hands-on activity is sure to spark curiosity and foster a deeper appreciation for the principles of physics in a fun and engaging manner.

Students will gather, preserve, and interpret the voices and memories of people, communities, and participants in past events.  They will record and videotape interviews with people having first-hand knowledge of events. The students in 5th grade have been tasked with creating a personal narrative or realistic fiction piece to share with younger students, in a format of their choice. The purpose of the story is to guide younger students by demonstrating how to overcome and/or prevent bullying in their world.** This performance assessment was developed by a collaborative team of teachers and division staff from Middlesex, Poquoson, and West Point school divisions.

In this lesson, students will travel to different stations while participating in various graphing activities.  The students will also be creating a whole class survey in one of the stations, where they will be documenting their results and sharing with the whole class when the lesson is complete.

This 2 day lesson will start off by teaching the students about various materials we use in the classroom and how we can save on waste in the classroom.  We will learn about some of the things we use to write and how over time that has changed.  This will then take the students into day 2 of the lesson where they will learn about recycling and the importance of taking care of our Earth whether it be by taking care of various materials in our classroom to learning about things that we can recycle to help the Earth’s landfills with waste.

Students will get a real life look at ways to be responsible online. 

Magnets are Amazing! Students will enjoy this review lesson discovering and creating things with magnets.  Students will also learn how magnets are essential to electronics and talk through troubleshooting

Have students present their simple machines through video instead of in person and teach the students about computer technology’s ability to communicate information through computers.

Comparing computer networking to soil. Students will be shown a live plant and its root system to model how a computer network spreads. Students will be making soil layer models (1 to eat and 1 to keep) and reviewing soil content using micro bits.

This sorting activity allows the students to explore several hands-on tasks that will encourage the students to use critical thinking skills to categorize and logically sort items by one or more attributes.

The students will complete a mixture of transformations on paper and then watch and complete GeoGeobra simulations of transformations to identify patterns and relationships.

Computer Abstraction seems to be a difficult concept along with Translating mRNA into Proteins. Why not use one to help explain the other and how important both are in our everyday life, and in living.  This lesson comes with a Slide Deck and a worksheet that will help students understand both topics and has options hands-on kits and extension activities to drive the points home.

This lesson offers a fun, hands-on approach to teaching students about the importance of creating strong passwords in a real life setting.

Students will learn the basic parts of a desktop computer through the hands on building of an air dry clay model. Students will have to label the parts of the computer by placing toothpicks with small labels on them into the model at the appropriate place.
